It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Eddie Alexander<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Eddie was a deeply respected and much\u2011loved member of our basketball community, contributing over five decades as a player, coach, and referee<\/strong>. His dedication, passion, and steady presence enriched the lives of countless players, officials, and volunteers, and his loss will be felt across every corner of our sport.<\/p>\n

Eddie\u2019s basketball journey began at Camphill High School in Paisley<\/strong>, before moving on to Paisley Basketball Club<\/strong>, where he competed in the Cadet and Junior National Leagues. As a senior player, he represented Renfrew<\/strong> in the Strathclyde League and later Strathclyde Police<\/strong> in their Police Championships.<\/p>\n

In the 1980s, Eddie qualified as a referee\u2014officiating both the running game and the wheelchair game\u2014and went on to serve in local and national leagues for many years. He continued refereeing until 2023\/24, stepping back only when his wife Lynne became unwell.<\/p>\n

Eddie\u2019s coaching career began in 1996 when he took on his daughter Joanne\u2019s primary school team, the Inchinnan Incas<\/strong>, in the Renfrewshire Primary Schools League. He later coached with the Erskine Eagles<\/strong> in the Paisley & District Basketball Association\u2019s Friday night Superleague, helping shape what would eventually evolve into Basketballpaisley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After his time with the Erskine Eagles, Eddie went on to coach the St Mirren Buddies Senior Men<\/strong>, creating many happy memories and earning the lasting respect of the players he guided.<\/p>\n

Although he stepped away from the game for a short period, Eddie returned in 2025 to coach the Bishopton Broncos Cadet Men<\/strong>, enjoying a rewarding season with a great group of young players. Both he and the team were already looking forward to the 2026\/27 season.<\/p>\n

Eddie\u2019s contribution to basketball was immense, but it was his kindness, humour, and unwavering commitment to others that truly set him apart. He leaves behind a legacy of service, sportsmanship, and community spirit.<\/p>\n

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.<\/p>\n

A big loss to us all.<\/p>\n
